About The Coastal Index Dashboard
In 2007, Louisianans developed the country’s first Master Plan for Coastal Protection and Restoration. Leaders project that billions of dollars will be spent on the coast over 50 years, including federal and state investments, and penalties from the BP oil spill. Such a massive investment of funds has the potential to catalyze the development of a new economic cluster. The purpose of The Coastal Index is to begin to quantify the size of the water management sector in Southeast Louisiana and to assess the strength of key factors known to affect the formation of vibrant economic clusters. In addition, it highlights how wetland deterioration has altered the social geography of the region. This Coastal Index dashboard provides the most up-to-date data for the indicators published in the original Coastal Index publications.
